Somers Town Community Association (STCA) is run by local people for local people who live in the St Pancras and Somers Town Ward in Camden. Our aim is to provide broad based services to local people. It is run by a Management Committee made up of groups using the centre and individuals who live or work in the local community. They have come together in a common effort to provide low cost activities for people who would not otherwise be able to access them. We endeavour to provide recreational, educational and welfare services in response to demand and changing circumstance. Our core activities include: a community café, lunch club for older people, a twenty-place community nursery, under fives drop-ins, youth club activities, language support classes (such as ESOL),training opportunities in our cafe and for NVQ child care students, space to Tenants Associations and other locally based groups, meeting rooms and a hall available for hire. Additionally, offer support to individuals and offer referral and signposting to a range of appropriate services. Our future programme direction includes at its heart:
• to work to eradicate Intergenerational poverty, the root causes of many of the wards issues
• to worker to lower the percentage of 18-24 year olds who are NEET; a major area of concern for STCA & one we will be looking to work closely on with our partners, whilst also creating jobs in our Café and Micro-enterprises
• to increase our participation in the National and Borough wide Social Cohesion research being undertaken; enabling us to influence yet draw down new thinking in such a key area.
STCA is a charity dedicated to providing cohesive, inclusive and innovative services. We strongly support empowering our community to create and spearhead an active and responsive organisation. This organisation aims to produce a meaningful and positive influence at every level of people’s lives. We value community in all its diversity and work vigorously with others to pursue these values.
